SIBU: Local Government and Community Development Minister Datuk Sri Wong Soon Koh yesterday reiterated his support for Datuk Tiong Thai King as candidate for Lanang and Temenggong Vincent Lau as candidate for Sibu in the coming parliamentary elections.

This is in line with Najib’s demand for nomination of winnable Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates.

“Both potential candidates have made a lot of contributions towards the development of Sibu in various aspects,” said Wong during the Sibu Lorry Owners’ Association’s annual dinner.

“However, they could do more through political means if they were MPs.”

On his part, Tiong stressed the importance of the coming parliamentary polls.

“It (elections) is a crucial one because it would seriously affect the future development of our nation. If the choice is right, Malaysia would move towards stability, a pre-requisite for development,” he said.

According to Wong, the 13th general election would be held after the Government’s Transformation Plan (GTP) mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has shown positive results.

He said this was why the Prime Minister had not set the date for the elections early as expected.

“Now, we can see that various transformation programmes have benefited the people,” he said.
