Two held over kidnap of woman for RM30mil ransom


IPOH: A businessman and his woman friend have been detained over the kidnapping of a 52-year-old woman on Sunday for a RM30mil ransom.

The 47-year-old man and his foreign woman friend, 50, were picked up in Genting Highlands on Tuesday.

“Both will be remanded for seven days as we probe further into the case,” said Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan.

The kidnapped woman was rescued by police during an operation in Trong near Taiping, about 90km from here, on Sunday.

Police shot dead two suspects and later arrested a 33-year-old man in Kamunting.

On Dec 26, the woman was kidnapped by four armed men who had asked the family for RM30mil in ransom.

DCP Mohd Shukri also said police were investigating claims that the family had paid SGD3mil (RM7.5mil) to the kidnappers.
