TEMERLOH: An armed drug dealer was nabbed after a fierce struggle with the police, who stormed his house while he was napping.

The suspect, who tried to flee, was subdued shortly after midnight Tuesday in an unnumbered house in Kampung Padang Tenggala, Seberang Temerloh near here.

OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Aziz Salleh said a revolver, with six live bullets, tucked behind the man's waist was seized.

He said other items seized included four spent shells, a smoke grenade, a knuckle duster, 180.3g of heroin and 1,040 Erimin 5 pills worth nearly RM37,000, RM1,100 in cash and a car reported stolen in Air Tawar, Penang.

"The suspect, aged 47, who goes by the nickname of Pak Lang @ Boei is high on the wanted list and a key drug leader.

"He had three previous convictions for drug-related offences and tested positive for morphine," he told a press conference here Wednesday.

ACP Abdul Aziz said checks showed the drugs were smuggled into the country for distribution around Temerloh and Maran.

He said police were in the midst of tracking down his gang members and believed the syndicate has been active for the past two years.

"The suspect from Kampung Mengkarak, Bera, has been remanded and faces the mandatory death penalty under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, if convicted.

"We are also investigating whether the suspect was linked to armed robberies and car thefts," he said.

In a separate case, police also detained a 25-year-old dealer and seized 2,200 psychotropic pills worth RM110,000.

ACP Abdul Aziz said acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a car by the roadside in Kampung Paya Siput, Lanchang at about 11.30pm on Tuesday.

"The suspect tried to flee on foot before he was nabbed after a short chase and brief struggle.

"The drugs were found in a sling bag on his shoulder,” he said, adding that the suspect from Kota Baru, Kelantan tested found positive for meth.

Checks showed the drugs were meant for Temerloh, Lanchang and Maran.
