KUCHING: A woman claimed that her suitor had threatened to kill her after she rejected his marriage proposal.
Not only that, Sulie, 42, from Taman Permai Indah Landeh here, told police that the suitor also demanded her to pay him RM10,000 for all his trouble.
It all began when the man, 45, who is a contract worker and believed to be Indonesian, came to Sulie’s house around 8pm on Monday to ask for her hand in marriage.
When Sulie rejected the proposal, the man became angry and began smashing things in the kitchen. It was then that he threatened Sulie and demanded compensation from her.
Fearing for her safety, Sulie rushed to her brother’s house nearby to seek protection. At first, Sulie’s brother thought it was just a matter that his sister needed to sort out but when Sulie’s nine-year-old daughter came bursting in tears, he knew that it was more serious than that.
Sulie’s brother then called his 30-year-old nephew and together, they went to Sulie’s house.
At the time, the rejected suitor was still there smashing whatever were left in the kitchen. When he saw Sulie’s brother and his nephew, the man immediately fled.
“He was willing to hurt a woman but when he saw us, he just left. I only wish that I could lay my hands on him,” said Sulie’s brother, 48.
When she came back to her house, Sulie was surprised to see that her plasma television was on the sofa, which could indicate that the man was trying to take it away with him.
A police report was later lodged at Simpang Tiga station.
