Gobind hails Najib's move over death of security guard

KLANG: Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo has welcomed the Prime Minister’s decision to ask for the report on the death of security guard C. Sugumar.

He said, however, that the Prime Minister should request for the forensic reports of all police-related deaths, and said such a directive should be extended to all cases of a similar nature.

Sugumar died after allegedly being beaten by the police and the public after he ran amok in Taman Sri Nanding, Hulu Langat last Wednesday.

“It is good that the Prime Minister has taken an interest,” Gobind told reporters yesterday.

He is representing the family of 22-year-old Pua Bee Chun, who was allegedly shot dead by police on Jan 18. She was sitting in the front passenger seat of a stolen car driven by a 31-year-old acquaintance when police gave chase and fired shots at the car.

Her husband Foo Voon Kong said the driver was his classmate’s older brother and claimed that his wife was not involved in any criminal activities.

Selangor deputy CID chief Asst Comm Rosli Mohd Isa was quoted in a news report as saying that the suspect tried to ram his way through after a police car had cornered him.

He said the suspect, now under police custody, had previous convictions for abduction and burglary.
