PETALING JAYA: The removal of banners bearing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's Chinese New Year greeting in Penang and Selangor reflect Pakayat Rakyat's insecurities, said Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor on Sunday.

"It clearly shows that Pakatan Rakyat was fearful of Najib's popularity. Otherwise, why do they have to stoop that low to take down banners bearing the Prime Minister's greetings to the rakyat?” he asked on Sunday.

He was responding to reports that such banners were taken down in Penang and Selangor.

Penang Umno chief Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman had also chided the Seberang Prai Municipal Council for taking down the banner's bearing Najib's New Year greetings.

“Such act of disrespect is a serious matter, as he (Najib) is the Prime Minister of this country,” he said.

He claimed that some billboards bearing images of Pakatan Rakyat leaders, including Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, were also not affixed with permit stickers issued by local councils.
