MUAR: About two hundred villagers staying near Bukit Pasir have applied for the MyKasih programme which provides food aid for needy families.

About 50 received the registration forms at a gathering attended by Jorak assemblyman Datuk Dr Shahruddin Mohd Salleh.

Dr Shahruddin said the MyKasih programme provided monthly food aid worth about RM80 to eligible families for a year.

“They just have to bring their MyKad to participating stores to get rice, cooking oil and bread and MyKasih will pay for the items,” he said in Bukit Pasir yesterday.

Dr Shahruddin said the poor families also received cash from the Welfare Department on a monthly basis while the E-Kasih programme provided help for their children’s schooling needs.

The Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia or BR1M also gives RM500 to every household earning less than RM3,000 per month.

Pagoh Community Social Group head R. Camboo said about 160 villagers in the area had registered for the MyKasih programme and about 50 more registered yesterday.

“We will continue to identify villagers who are eligible for MyKasih and register them,” he added.
