Three killed in bus-car collision on East-West Highway

IPOH: Three passengers were killed and a driver seriously injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a bus on the East-West Highway early Wednesday.
Gerik OCPD Supt Abdul Manab Baharum said the accident occurred at KM61.8 of the East-West Highway when the Proton Saga with one male driver and three female passengers collided with the bus travelling from Gerik to Jeli at 1am.
"Early investigations showed that the Proton Saga was overtaking a few cars in front of it when it entered the opposite lane.
"A bus carrying 29 passengers from the opposite direction could not stop in time and crashed head-on into the car, sending the car careening into a drain," he said.
Supt Abdul Manab said the car's three passengers sustained fatal head injuries as a result of the crash.
"The bodies of the deceased were sent to the Gerik Hospital for post mortem and were released to their families at around 10am.
"The bus driver and passengers were unharmed in the incident," he said.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that one of the victims was the mother of actress Catriona Ross, Siti Zawiyah Abd Rahman, 63.
The other two were identified as Sitah Abdullah, 53, and Norini Abdul Ghani, 43, and the car's driver as Mustapa Che Su, 54.
