Daughter caned and told to transfer from school for not finishing homework, claims dad
BUTTERWORTH: A father claims that his daughter has been suffering from emotional distress after she was allegedly caned, sent out of class and told to apply for a transfer by a female teacher for failing to complete her homework.
Syahrul Asmawi Rashid, 35, said his daughter, Nur Emilia, 12, a Year Six pupil had refused to return to school as the teacher had told her to fill up a transfer form and move to another school.
"The teacher contacted me at 9.30am on Friday and told me that my daughter had been sent home for failing to finish her homework.
"I was shocked because Emilia did not return home. Our house is located less than 100m from the school. I later found her crying in the village.
"She didn't tell me what actually happened in school until her friend, who dropped by, related the incident to me," he told reporters here Wednesday.
Syahrul, who is self-employed, said he lodged a police report over the incident on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Penang education director Tarmizi Kamaruddin said he had ordered the school's headmaster to investigate the allegation.
"Maybe the teacher was overcome with emotion. However, it is against teaching principles to send pupils out of class for they have the right to remain in class to learn," he added. - Bernama
