Foreigners detained for posing as military personnel

BAGAN SERAI: Security forces detained a group of foreigners off Sabah Tuesday for posing as military personnel.

The foreigners, dressed in military uniform and robes, were trying to encroach into Malaysian waters off Lahad Datu.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Wednesday that the Malaysian Armed Forces had been directed to work closely with the police and take immediate action.

"We don't want our national defence elements to be exposed, including in Lahad Datu, Sabah," he told reporters after receiving a memorandum from 28 non-governmental organisations here supporting Barisan Nasional.

Ahmad Zahid said action was taken immediately to keep the nation's defence and security at a high level.

He added that he had instructed Armed Forces chief Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin to issue a statement on the matter. - Bernama
