Challenging Year of the Snake
FEB 10 marked the beginning of the Lunar New Year. Coming in 12-year cycles, it is the Year of the Snake or, to be precise, the Year of the Water Snake.
If you were born in 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, you come under the sign of the Snake.
Among the famous people born in the Year of the Snake is none other than our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (born July 23, 1953). Also, DAP leader Lim Kit Siang (born on Feb 20, 1941) is another Snake person.
Two other famous Snake people are China’s new leader Xi Jinping, born in 1953 and the 36-year-old Gangnam Style singer Psy.
Other famous people include Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr, Indira Gandhi, Alfred Nobel, Oprah Winfrey, Pablo Picasso, Bob Dylan, Martha Stewart, Pierce Brosnan and Edgar Allan Poe.
It’s of interest to note that the US World Trade Centre twin towers, destroyed in a terror attack that took place on Sept 11, 2001, and the 1929 US stock market plunge that heralded the Great Depression, both occurred in Snake years.
As always, there are predictions about the fortune or fate of people born in the Year of the Snake and also about nations and financial matters.
Snake Year people, according to one source, are supposed to be talented, intuitive, creative, take time to ponder and are meticulous in their actions and are effective in whatever they do. On the other hand, they are secretive, privately ambitious, determined and carry through with their plans, choose to be close with a few but, in fact, are distant toward most.
The same source predicts that Snake Year people could face, this year, a variety of challenges in various facets of their lives and endeavours and that nations and businesses will witness major changes, upheavals and disasters.
But all these are qualified by many different aspects based on what the various characteristics and predictions are defined and made – all of which, I believe, is best left to the professional astrologers and celebrity feng shui masters.
Whatever the Year of the Snake portends for individuals, nations or enterprises, let’s hope that with wisdom, hard work and honesty and, above all, faith in God, this Lunar New Year will be a year of goodness and blessings for all of us.
