Kadir Sheikh Fadzir seeks speedy registration of Ikatan

By M MAGESWARI

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Cabinet minister Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir (pix) is seeking a court order to direct the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to speed up the registration of his party, Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan).

He said the registration was important due to the upcoming general election.

Speaking to reporters here, Abdul Kadir said the party has the noble objective of uniting Malaysians and fighting for the people's benefit.

He said the party consisted of people from all races who were highly qualified to be leaders.

He said he had submitted an application to the ROS to register Ikatan on June 6 last year and an acknowledgement was received on Dec 11.

“I have met senior officials from ROS several times to ensure that all the papers are in order.

“I did not get any feedback over the status of my application,” he said, adding that he had written to the secretary-general, deputy secretary-secretary of the Home Ministry and the director-general of the ROS on the matter.

“To set up a party is a right which is guaranteed in the Federal Constitution,” he added.

Abdul Kadir's lawyer, Murnie Hidayah Anuar, said she would serve a copy of the judicial review application to ROS by next week.
