PETALING JAYA: The date for inquest proceedings into the disappearance and death of William Yau Zhen Zhong is expected to be given next week.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli said Friday that police were still awaiting the decision from the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court for the inquest date.

"Initially, we expected the date to be given this week but that is not the case.

"However, we are hopeful that the court will give an answer by Monday," he said.

ACP Yahaya said police have already had some 54 witnesses and persons of interest for the inquest.

"An inquest is the most logical step after our investigations, spanning more than two weeks, yielded no leads or credible evidence.

"Even the full postmortem results have failed to shed any light to how William died," he said.

On Jan 16, six-year-old William went missing in Putra Heights when his parents stopped by an electrical shop to look at some appliances.

His body was found a week later near the Kampung Sungai Sireh jetty in Port Klang.
