BACHOK: A man, in his 50s, died after being shot while having breakfast with his family at a food stall in Kampung Kemasin here on Friday.

Bachok district police chief DSP Ab Rahim Che Ghani said the incident occurred about 9am when two men on a motorcycle fired several shots at the man and then slashed the victim when he attempted to flee.

"The victim died at the scene due to several shot and slash wounds on the body," he told reporters when met at the scene.

He said police believed vengeance was the motive for the attack and had mounted a search for the attackers.

Police had identified the suspects, believed to be involved in several crime and drug cases in the district, he added. Meanwhile, the victim's wife, who declined to be identified, said she and her husband often had breakfast outside.

"We bought 'nasi berlauk' in Beris Kubur Besar and then went to a cousin's food stall to eat the rice for breakfast.

"While we were eating, I saw a two suspects on motorcycle stopped in front of the food stall and then fired several shots. My husband jumped and hid under the table.

"However, one of the suspect entered the food stall and fired a few more shots, before the other one came in and slashed my husband with a sword," she said. - Bernama
