A woman and her three children have been arrested in Tirupattur, about 200km from Chennai for the murder of her husband, reported Makkal Osai.

The woman, known only as Primala, 36, had allegedly killed her husband Meganathan, 54, for opposing their daughter's plan to marry.

With the aid of her children, daughter Thamizhselvi, 20, and sons Parthiban, 19, and Yuvaraj, 14, Primala was alleged to have strangled Meganathan after feeding him sleeping pills on Wednesday.

She was said to be angry at her husband for opposing Thamizhselvi's plan to marry her maternal uncle Madheswaran, 26.

It was claimed that Meganathan also had a strained relationship with his sons and was not a good provider for his family.

Tirupattur police said Primala and her children would be charged with murder.

In the incident, the four had their faces blackened before they were paraded naked across the streets in the village while villagers beat drums.

Prior to the incident, some villagers had fallen ill and they accused the four of using witchcaft to make them fall sick.
