RoS confirms it received DAP’s report; apologises for confusion

By CHRISTOPHER TAN and PATRICK LEE

PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Societies (RoS) confirmed Sunday that it had received the DAP's Dec 15 Central Executive Committee's polls report on Feb 8, ahead of the Feb 15 deadline it had set for the party.

“Here I would like to clarify that my previous statement was based on information that was not updated and this has led to confusion,” Registrar Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman said in a statement late Sunday.

“RoS apologises to all parties concerned over this mistake,” he said.

The investigations into DAP's CEC polls was ongoing and would be finalised as soon as possible, he said.

On Saturday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein was reported as saying that he was told that DAP had failed to submit the report on time and, therefore, RoS would begin its investigations.

On Dec 15, CEC polls were held and, three weeks later, DAP leaders had revealed "glitches" in the vote-collection.

The alleged errors saw the elected list of CEC members revised, with Zairil Khir Johari, an aide of secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, included into the list.

DAP election director Pooi Weng Keong resigned later.

Earlier, Sunday DAP leaders insisted that they had met the 60-day deadline to give a report to the RoS.

"DAP submitted the report on Feb 8, before the Feb 15 deadline. We have evidence that we submitted the report and it has been acknowledged," said National chairman Karpal Singh said at a press conference in Air Itam.

Meanwhile, in Petaling Jaya, DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke Siew Fook said that he and an assistant personally visited the ROS office in Putrajaya at about 10am on Feb 8 to hand over the report.

He said they gave copies of documents including the minutes of the CEC meeting, accounts ending 2012 and a list of all elected and appointed leaders.

“We submitted the documents,” Loke told a press conference at the DAP headquarters here on Sunday.
