Xenophon not on list of Aussie delegation
PETALING JAYA: Australian senator Nick Xenophon was not part of a bipartisan parliamentary delegation coming here to look into the country's electoral reforms, said an official of the Prime Minister's Department.
“Only three persons were listed. They never communicated about Xenophon; he was never on the list of individuals who were supposed to arrive here for the meeting,” the official said, as quoted in The Malaysian Insider yesterday.
The official forwarded to the online portal a text message from an aide of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim sent to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz, who is in charge of parliamentary affairs.
The text message showed that only those three names were listed to be in the delegation.
Xenophon was supposed to have met with representatives of the Government and the Opposition during his visit here, besides members of civil society groups and leaders of the Malaysian Bar.
However, he was denied entry into Malaysia on Saturday.
