Police probe hacking of Information Dept's website
KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has set up a special task force to investigate the hacking of Information Department's website which was found to have posted a statement on the alleged resignation of the prime minister.
Commercial Crime Division director Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan said the task force was set up under the Cyber and Multimedia Crime Investigation Unit to carry out detailed investigation to ensure that the incident would not recur.
"We will investigate the incident and take action against those involved," he told Bernama.
He said the investigation under Section 5 of the Computer Crimes Act 1997 would involve various aspects, including identifying the internet protocol (IP) address of local and foreign users.
The e-Akhbar and e-Press applications in the department's website were hacked with two posted statements, titled 'Memo Permohonan Rakyat Malaysia' and 'Perdana Menteri Secara Rasminya Meletak Jawatan'.
