KUCHING: A 24-hour retail shop was robbed by two masked men early Sunday.

According to a sales assistant who was manning the counter then, two strangers armed with machetes barged into the shop near Tabuan Plaza around 6am, taking her by surprise.

Rosni, 35, said the two demanded her to open the cash box to which, out of fear, she relented and handed them all the RM654 that was inside.

Immediately after that, the robbers rushed out of the shop and drove off in a grey Perodua Viva.

Rosni later lodged a police report at Sekama station.

In another case, a housewife claimed that she was mugged while shopping at a mall near Jalan Keretapi here, also on Sunday.

Liu, 49, of Jalan Semaba told Sungai Maong police that around 3.20pm, a man who was wearing a crash helmet and holding a knife, approached her.

Upon seeing him, she screamed but her action resulted in nothing at all.

“He just came to me and snatched my handbag,” Liu said, adding that she struggled to keep her handbag but fell and knocked her head against the wall in the process.

Seeing her on the floor, the robber quickly dashed to the ground floor and hopped onto a waiting motorcycle with an accomplice outside the mall.

According to Liu, the accomplice was a woman.

The complainant claimed that her handbag contained two mobile phones, RM400 cash, cosmetics, ATM cards and some personal documents.
