KUALA LUMPUR: Former ISA detainee Yazid Sufaat and his acquaintance Halimah Hussein claimed trial to the charge of inciting terrorists acts.

High Court judge Justice Kamardin Hashim fixed May 20 to hear the case.

The court also fixed Feb 25 to hear the habeas corpus application of Mohd Hilmi Hasim, who was also detained with the duo on Feb 7.

They are the first persons to be arrested under the new Special Offences (Security Measures) Act 2012.

Yazid, 49, was charged with inciting terrorist acts at a house in Ampang between August and October 2012.

Halimah, 52, was charged with abetting him.

Yazid was alleged to have "threatened the public in Syria" with these acts, the penalty for which is up to 30 years jail and a fine under the Penal Code.

In the court Wednesday, counsel Amer Hamzah Arshad informed the court that the accused would be applying to strike out or permanently stay the charges.
