Three flee with RM2.2mil after hijacking security van
In police custody: The armoured security van which was hijacked by robbers at Jalan 227 in Petaling Jaya. PETALING JAYA: Three robbers, one armed with a pistol, hijacked an armoured security van before escaping with RM2.2mil cash at Jalan 227 here.
It is learnt that the security guards had parked the van by the roadside at about 10am to buy breakfast at a nearby hawker centre.
While they were preoccupied with their takeaway breakfast, three armed robbers forced them to open the door.
The robbers managed to overpower the guards after a struggle, stole the cash and escaped in a getaway car.
One of the security guards suffered minor injuries while the other two were unharmed.
The guards then drove to a nearby police station and lodged a report.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed said initial investigations revealed the guards had not followed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
“They were supposed to send the money to a bank in Kuala Lumpur and should not have stopped for breakfast.
“We have detained all three to assist in investigations,” he told a press conference yesterday.
