Taib Mahmud: We will go all out to ensure Najib gets mandate
By DIANA ROSE
MIRI: Chief Minister Tan Sri Taib Mahmud made a commitment to go all out to ensure that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun razak gets his mandate in the general election.
Taib promised that the state Barisan Nasional will deliver most, if not all, the parliamentary seats in the state.
Sarawak has 31 of the 222 parliamentary seats of which Barisan won 29 in the 2008 polls.
The four parties under the coalition are Taib-led Parti Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB), which holds 14 seats, Sarawak United People's Party (5), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) (6), and Sarawak Progressive Democratice Party (4).
At a Chinese New Year gathering held in conjunction with Najib's visit to the state on Wednesday night, Taib made the pledge of support by declaring "we are for you, we are for you, we are for you" before some 5,000 guests.
"We will support you all out including your 1Malaysia policy," he said.
Taib said Najib had travelled widely in Sarawak and now understood the people's needs, aspirations and hopes.
Najib later approved projects for two new schools (SK Tudan and SMK Tudan) and 500 units of affordable homes in Lambir in Miri.
The projects were among several put forward by incumbent Miri MP Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui who is also Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister. Chin is also the president of the SUPP.
Taib added: "It also indicate that we in BN are always striving to achieve something not only for one race but towards a much deeper understanding, towards the creating of Bangsa Malaysia, a dream of one nation.
"Although it may not happen within one night, I am sure a lot of the Chinese people here have high hopes that the PM understand their hopes, aspirations and problems and because of that, Sir, we believe that you will make a very sympathetic and understanding Prime Minister who will unite further our multi-racial society."
