KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has called on the people of Sarawak to use their wisdom when deciding on which party to vote for in the coming general election.

He said the people in the state must vote for the party that could fulfil its promises, adding that Pakatan Rakyat had not delivered on its own promises to the people in Opposition-ruled states in Selangor, Kelantan, Kedah and Penang.

Najib said an example of Pakatan’s unfulfilled promises was the legal action by people in Selangor against the state government for failing to provide allowances and free water as promised during the last election.

The Opposition, he said, could do the same thing to the people in Sarawak by failing to fulfil its promises.

“Give your vote to Barisan Nasional, a party you can trust because it has fulfilled all its promises made to the people,” he said at the Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat (Leaders with the People) function here yesterday.

Najib said more development would take place in Sri Aman if Barisan were given a fresh mandate to form the government.

He added that Barisan had implemented a RM200mil hospital project, a RM43mil water treatment plant and rural electrification schemes amounting to RM160mil in Sri Aman.

At another function in Beladin, Najib said development projects would need more time to reach the people in Sarawak because of the sheer size of the state and its segregated population.

However, he said the people should place stronger faith in Barisan because of its long track record of managing to provide development for the people.

“Development is not complete without transformation. This is especially true in rural areas where we want to make sure this agenda is to be completed.

“Therefore, give Barisan another chance, and I assure you we will be able to provide most of rural Sarawak with electricity supply, treated water, roads and other amenities,” he said at a gathering at Batang Lupar during the presentation of BR1M and Fishermen’s Living Allowance at Kamping Beladin.
