Bus driver gets 4 years' jail, fine for death of traffic policeman

JOHOR BARU: A 48-year-old woman bus driver was sentenced to four years' jail by a traffic magistrate's court here Friday for reckless driving and causing the death of a traffic policeman.

Wong Lin Chan was found guilty of driving a Singapore-registered intercity bus in a dangerous manner and ramming it into the officer who was on duty at the Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex at around 11.35pm on Mar 22.

She was driving the vehicle with passengers entering Johor Baru from the island republic at the time.

On top of the jail term, Magistrate Maslinda Selamat ordered Wong to pay a fine of RM10,000 as well as a RM10,000 compensation to the victim's family.
