Keretapi Sarong fun in six cities on Saturday

KUALA LUMPUR: Commuters of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) on Saturday will see the LRT staff walking around the stations in sarongs in conjunction with the 'Keretapi Sarong' programme.

A statement from Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) said the fun event, now into its second year for Kuala Lumpur, this time would be joined by other cities including London, Melbourne, Washington DC, Boston and Philadelphia, which had initiated their local keretapi sarong chapters.

"Modelled after the No Pants Subway ride movement, the idea of 'Keretapi Sarong' programme is to get people to board trains in 'kain sarong', be proud of their heritage, meet some new friends and have a good time while at it," the statement added.

Prasarana's Rail Division Group director Khairani Mohamed said the LRT staff were encouraged to join in the fun and support the programme.

He said programme participants were also encouraged to tell their 'sarong stories' which would be posted at www.keretapisarong.posterous.com and Random Alphabets Facebook page.
