Four friends get jail time over death of housemate

KUALA LUMPUR: For allegedly owing a housemate RM2,000 and bad-mouthing two others, Nor Shahirah Hassan ended up dead.

At the High Court yesterday, four friends were sentenced to eight years and six months in jail for causing the death of Nor Shahirah, 26, on Feb 3, last year.

Justice Azman Husin meted out the sentence after Sherill Clarissa Razif, 24; Ellina Mahili, 25, Huzaifah Kamal and Raja Nur Bahiah Raja Kamaruzaman, both 24, pleaded guilty to the charge.

They were charged with committing manslaughter with the intent to cause bodily injury to Nor Shahirah at their condominium at Block 3, Genting Court, Jalan Genting Kelang Setapak, Sentul, here, at about 4.37am.

Earlier, when Justice Azman asked the four what had urged them to commit the offence, Ellina said that the victim owed her RM2,000.

Sherill and Raja Nur Bahiah told Justice Azman that Nor Shahirah had “talked bad things” about them.

According to the statement of facts, Sherill called the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters in Jalan Hang Tuah.

She claimed that her friend had jumped off from Level 7 of the condominium.

Initial investigations revealed that Sherill, Ellina, Huzaifah and Raja Nur Bahiah had poured boiling water on Nor Shahirah’s face and body three times.

Nor Shahirah was also beaten and kicked.

The four also stripped the deceased before ordering her to take a piece of cloth from the other room to wipe the wet floor.

However, Nor Shahirah failed to emerge from the room.

They later went into the room and discovered that Nor Shahirah had jumped off the building.

Her body was found lying face down on the ground.
