Muhyiddin: English a must-pass subject when teachers and students ready

KOTA KINABALU: English language would be a must-pass subject in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination when teachers and students are ready for it said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin who is also the Education Minister said said at the mean time in preparing for this, parents, teachers and students must work together to improve the quality of English in the country.
He said although the education system in the country is considered good, more still needs to be done to bring it at par with other education systems in the world.
“We must work towards bringing education and the system to a stage where the competitiveness is of world class level,” he said at the launching of the Guru Muda 1Malaysia tour here on Saturday.
He said education is among the main contributor to a country's development and quality human capital building whereas teachers play a huge part in ensuring the goal is achieved.
