Muhyiddin dares Hadi to issue fatwa against BR1M

MUAR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has dared PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to issue a fatwa (edict) to forbid the disbursement of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) by the federal government.

The Deputy Prime Minister also challenged the PAS leader to issue another edict to declare the act of receiving the aid as haram (forbidden).

“If this is not done (by PAS), it only means that what the (federal) government is doing is charity to help the people,” he said after handing out BR1M aid at the Pagoh Sports Complex here yesterday.

He also lambasted the Opposition for likening Barisan Nasional with the Pharaohs for handing out BR1M.

Abdul Hadi said during the Pharaohs’ rule they had handed financial aid to their subjects to make them worship him as God.

PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat had also said that schemes like BR1M were against Islamic teachings.

Muhyiddin said financial aid from the Government was aimed at reducing the financial burden of lower and middle-income households.
