Kelantan hit by third wave of floods


KOTA BARU: The number of people evacuated due to the floods in Kelantan increased to 261 on Tuesday evening.

The evacuees, from 59 families, are from several villagers in Kuala Krai, Pasir Puteh and Tanah Merah.

The reading at Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang and Sungai Kelantan at the Guillemard Bridge in Tanah Merah at 4pm showed that the water level has breached the danger level.

The measurement was 9.85 metres at Sungai Golok (danger level is 9m), and 16.99 metres (the danger level is 16m) at the Guillemard Bridge.

The water level at the other main rivers was also reported to be rising.

Two students, aged 13 and 15, both from SM Temangan in Machang were reported to be the first victims in this third wave of flood to hit Kelantan.

There is no report of road closure and the weather is reportedly cloudy with intermittent heavy rain, especially in the interior areas. - Bernama
