Five roosters, "fight organiser" caught at den
SHAH ALAM: Police busted a cock-fighting syndicate and arrested its "organiser" at a gambling den located next to a lake in Serdang.
Five roosters were seized and 35 men and a woman arrested when a team from the Selangor Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism Unit (D7) mounted a raid on Monday.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mohd Adnan Abdullah said 26 of those arrested were foreigners.
"We believe one of the Malaysians is the organiser, as he has previous records of organising events in other gambling dens,” he told reporters.
SAC Mohd Adnan said police seized 16 items, including pouches to keep stainless steel blades used in cock-fights.
“The blades are tied to the roosters' spurs and they fight to the death. These blades are razor sharp,” he said, adding that the suspects will be investigated for illegal gambling and animal cruelty.
The other items seized were gambling mats and boards, dice and RM36,805.
In a separate case, a syndicate responsible for 19 car thefts in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Johor was smashed with the arrests of four suspects in Nilai.
SAC Mohd Adnan said the suspects were detained within a day after a car was reported stolen in Taman Sungai Besi Indah on Sunday.
“Police arrested a man driving a car matching the description given by the victim. The number plates were changed but the victim identified the car from the rims,” he said.
This led to the subsequent arrests of three more suspects, including the owner of a workshop where cars were cannibalised.
The frames of nineteen locally-made cars were found in the workshop located in the Nilai Industrial Area.
