Man strangled, threatened for leaving political party
MARANG: Four people have been arrested here for allegedly strangling a political party supporter who recently left the party.
In the 7pm incident on Monday, the 53-year-old victim, his wife and child were at home in Kampung Jerung Seberang, Wakai Tapai when the four suspects, who lived in the same village, came to the house threatening to kill him and burn down his house.
The incident was sparked by a banner 'Kami Penduduk Kampung Bukit Cempedak Sokong Parti Lain' (We Residents of Kampung Bukit Cempedak Support A Different Party) which the victim had put up.
State CID chief ACP K.Manoharan said the victim and the suspects were arguing at the house before one of them grabbed the victim and tried to strangle him in front of the family.
He said suspect threatened to burn the victim's house because he had quit the party and put up the banner.
The victim and his group left the party two months ago and wanted to form a new branch at the village.
ACP Manoharan said the victim lodged a report on the same day and the four suspects, aged between 34 and 38, were picked up to assist in the investigation.
The case is being investigated for using violence and criminal intimidation.
