Senior citizens file suit against Selangor over pre-election promise

By WANI MUTHIAH

SHAH ALAM: Some 1,000 senior citizens have filed a suit at the High Court civil registry here, demanding that the Selangor state government fulfils its pre-election manisfesto promise made to them in 2008.

The plaintiffs, Akhiruddin Abd Rashid and 1,000 other senior citizens from throughout Selangor, named the state government and Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim as defendants.

They are demanding that the defendants fulfill their promise to make Takaful insurance contributions of RM2,500 each.

They are demanding a total claim of RM2.5mil for the 1,001 plaintiffs in the case that was filed Wednesday.

Akhirudin, 63, said the state's senior citizens had been hoodwinked by the state government in believing that they would be receiving the insurance policies.

"Pakatan (Rakyat) has failed to deliver what it promised us," said the former security guard with a bank.

The case was filed by Kamarudin & Partners.
