Rais: No objection to foreign journalists covering GE13
JEMPOL: The Information, Communications and Culture Ministry has no objection to foreign journalists covering the 13th general election.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said, however, if they came with a political purpose, the authorities would certainly not be able to accommodate their request.
"We will not hinder their coming to Malaysia to cover the upcoming elections.
“In fact, Reuters, CNN, CNBC, New York Times and Herald Tribune, already have representatives here, so I do not see why their visit should be rejected if it is properly planned. The ministry will accord them due cooperation.
"So far, no journalists have been deported or asked to leave the country except for an Australian senator recently, but that was another matter which was not related to journalists."
He said this after presenting 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) to recipients in the Lui state seat under the Jelebu parliamentary constituency at Felda Lui Muda, near here, on Thursday.
Dr Rais, who is also the Jelebu MP, said anybody could enter Malaysia and there was no need for a special visa for journalists, but if they infringed the law here, action would be taken.
He said at the moment there were no applications from foreign journalists to cover the 13GE.
