Funds much needed: (From left) Lee, Chan and his wife Wong Siew Gim and Jonathan Lee discussing how to lend Chan a helping hand. KUALA LUMPUR: Two years ago, Jackson Chan, 51, was a happy family man and a rather successful vacuum salesman.
Today, he is jobless, bedridden with cancer and worried about his children's future.
“I have never smoked or drank alcohol, not even beer, and I've got this,” pointing to a colostomy bag hooked to his body.
The sole breadwinner of his family and father of three teenage daughters said doctors removed a cancerous tumour in his left thigh in 2011. They later found out that the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes near his groin, damaging his colon.
Despite eight surgeries, including five in December, and radio and chemotherapy sessions, the cancer remains, leaving Chan in excruciating pain.
“I have to take morphine just to sleep. I'm happy if I can shut my eyes for even one hour”.
Chan had already spent more than RM160,000 of his savings and had taken loans from relatives over the past two years.
Now, he has no money left to pay the rent, car instalments and even for food. They live off generous donations from friends and neighbours.
A family friend and Selangor Hospital Visitors Board member Alex Lee appealed to the public to help the family.
For more information on how to donate, call Lee (016-205 2328) or Jonathan Lee (012-462 4369).
