Seven Nigerian students detained for conducting religious activities

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven Nigerian men were detained for allegedly misusing their student passes to carry out religious activities.

Immigration Department officers detained the men, including a priest, in Taman Connaught, Cheras, here in a surprise check on Sunday.

The seven men, aged between 27 and 38, were detained with 30 others, including two locals, who had attended a talk by the priest.

Enforcement Division assistant director James Musa Singa said the activity by the Nigerian priest had violated the law as foreign nationals were absolutely not allowed to carry out religious activities without the Home Ministry's permission.

He told a press conference that the seven Nigerian nationals would be repatriated if found guilty.

They were studying at a private college here and were believed to have been carrying out religious activities since 2011. - Bernama
