Five friends escape possible fiery death
KUCHING: Five friends were lucky to escape with their lives after the car they boarded crashed into a road divider, landed in a drain and burst into flames.
The incident occurred around 2am yesterday at Mile 6, Jalan Penrissen near here. According to an eyewitness, the driver of the Proton Persona was heading towards Mile 6 from Kota Sentosa before he lost control of the car and crashed into the road divider.
The impact caused it to jump over the road and landed in a nearby drain.
The driver and his four passengers sustained minor injuries due to the crash, but all managed to crawl out of the car.
At that time, they also saw smoke coming out from the engine’s compartment.
Just minutes after they got out, the car exploded.
The driver immediately contacted his friends who later brought all five to a private hospital near Mile 3 Jalan Penrissen for treatment. All were admitted.
The Fire Department was contacted and a fire engine arrived at the scene.
The identities of the driver and his friends were still unknown at press time.
