Another member of “Amie” gang shot dead

KOTA BARU: A suspect, believed to be a member of the armed-robbery gang known as "Amie", was shot dead by the police when he attacked a policeman in an attempt to evade police arrest near the Gunung Stong waterfall in Dabong, Kuala Krai here Tuesday.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the policeman was forced to open fire in self-defence when the suspect lunged at him with a sword.

Police had mounted a search for the suspect, a 27-year-old man from Paka, Terengganu, believed to be an accomplice of the two men shot dead by the police in a shootout at Kampung Sungai Sam, Kuala Krai, last Sunday.

He said police went to the waterfall at about 11.45am and surrounded the area when the suspect came out from his hiding and lunged at the policeman.

The suspect died at the scene, he told reporters at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters here. He said police seized a sword, RM6,150 and red-coloured pills, believed to be psychotropic pills in the raid.

Jalaluddin said police were looking for another member of the gang and urged those with information to contact the nearest police station.

In the incident on Sunday, police shot dead two suspected criminals after they and two others abducted a male clerk of a finance company and robbed him of RM50,000 which he had just withdrawn from a bank.

The two other suspects fled from the scene. - Bernama
