SHAH ALAM: All the four Pakatan-run state governments are not focusing on building low-cost houses with Selangor and Penang coming out as the worst two.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung said that although most states needed funding from the Federal Government to build such homes, Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Kelantan did not look into such development plans.

“The worst among these four states would be Selangor and Penang,” he said. “These state governments only focused on mid-range projects.

“This is wrong. Many people go to these states to find jobs, hence, they cannot neglect low-cost housing projects,” he added.

Due to this, Chor said the Federal Govern-ment, being a compassionate government, had launched 48 low-cost housing projects nationwide for the people.

These, he said, kicked off late last year and would see more than 26,000 low-cost homes built in the country by next year.

“If you earn less than RM2,000 a month, you cannot afford a house in Selangor or Penang,” Chor told reporters after delivering vehicles and equipment to the Fire and Rescue Department in Section 15 here yesterday.

On development projects delayed by the water supply problem in Selangor, Chor said he had received complaints from several developers on the matter.

At the event, Chor handed out 100 fire engines, five prime movers, 30 volunteer fire response vehicles and equipment to fire and rescue volunteers.

The vehicles and equipment come from a RM329mil Federal Government allocation.
