Police: Suicide behind deaths of grieving family of four

IPOH: Several facts point to a possibility of suicide in the case of a family found burnt to death in their home in Sungei Siput.
Sungai Siput OCPD Supt Azman Salim said the family was last seen by their neighbours at about 7pm on Monday.
He said the neighbours found the house very quiet until they heard an explosion at about 12.10am. There was also information that the family had purchased RM60 worth of petrol.
“The family was also managing the funeral matters of the deceased father earlier on Monday morning,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
Supt Azman said police did not find any criminal elements at the moment.
The bodies of S. Jayalatchumy, 45, her children R. Thilagawati, 23, R. Puvaneswary, 21, and R. Suhan, 17, were found in the kitchen of their rented single-storey house in Taman Bukit Medan early Tuesday.
The incident came four days after the father, M. Rajan, 48, an estate owner, died at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh on Feb 1 after a prolonged illness.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said the family did not mix with the neighbours.
“Currently, the information points to suicide, but we need to wait for the forensic report," he said.
