EC chairman Aziz: This will be "best and cleanest" election in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof is "very sure" that Sabah will see the "best and cleanest election in history."
The election this time around may be hot' and challenging, he said, but it will definitely not be the dirtiest.
"We are very sure of this because of all the new approaches taken to secure the election process and ensure minimal cheating or dishonesty in the electoral roll despite numerous critics from the public on the EC's transparency,” he said.
Abdul Aziz said this was made possible by the introduction of the indelible ink, appointment of domestic observers, early voting for army and police personnel and stricter voting methods for overseas Malaysians.
“We have received so many suggestions from the public including non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and political parties on how to improve the election process.
"(We have) implemented some of the best (suggestions) so I am sure the 13th general election will be the best and cleanest,” he said after handing out appointment letters to observers, among them Sabah Youth Council, Federation of Chinese Association Sabah and Malaysia History Association (Sabah).
He added that the list of voters in the current rolls are eligible Malaysian citizens whose identities have been verified by the National Registration Department.
Abdul Aziz said observers need to abide by EC rules and are given a month to recruit their volunteers.
Meanwhile, he said as of 8.30am on Wednesday, the number of overseas Malaysians who have registered as voters stood at 1,574 while the total number of voters for the third quarter of last year was 969,479.
“RM52 million has also being allocated as election expenses for Sabah,” he added.
