Selangor announces RM200 incentive for newlyweds

By TEH ENG HOCK

SHAH ALAM: Newly-married couples, and those intending to get hitched will get RM200 from the Selangor state government.

State exco member Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi announced Wednesday that couples who married on or after Jan 1 this year would be entitled to the marriage incentive.

To qualify, either spouse must have resided in Selangor for at least 15 years, be under the age of 35, and have not been married before.

Some 25,000 couples are expected to benefit from the new programme, he said.

"Last year, there were about 17,000 Muslim marriages and more than 7,000 non-Muslim marriages," he said.

For Muslim couples, the money would be credited into their Tabung Haji accounts, while non-Muslims would be issued a premium savings certificate from a bank.

"Youths can start applying at community service centres of state assemblymen," he told reporters here.
