SHAH ALAM: A Colombian man believed to be part of a house burglary syndicate that has been active here the past year was arrested on Monday.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Zahedi Ayub said a police task force tracked down and monitored the 25-year-old man following a break-in at a bungalow along Jalan Serum 7/31, Section 7 here on Dec 1 last year.

"The homeowner reported losing jewellery, wrist watches and cash amounting to about RM10,000," he told a press conference here Wednesday.

The gang is believed to have broken into 10 houses, stealing thousands of ringgit worth of jewellery, cash and other valuables.

Police arrested the man at around 6.45am on Monday at the parking lot of a condominium in Taman Desa.

The man, who is now in remand, then led the police to a unit there, where they found some house break-in tools, jewellery and other valuables.

Police believed the man had entered the country legally, on a social pass.

He urged residents who noticed any Latin American men moving into their neighbourhoods to immediately notify the police.
