"The three are believed to be the mastermind in recruiting Malaysians for militant activities," it said.

Police did not release the names of the detainees.

However, it is believed that one of them was Yazid, who was detained under the ISA in December 2001 for alleged links with Jemaah Islamiah and released after seven years.

The other man detained is believed to be Yazid's worker, identified as Mohd Hilmi Ahsin.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein told reporters that the three allegedly have extensive terror links and were considered as high-level threats'.

“We believed their links links to terrorism and militancy are not confined to Malaysia," he said after presenting BR1M aid to staff of the ministry.
