I would have caned you, judge tells elderly bomoh molester
By NURBAITI HAMDAN
SHAH ALAM: A bomoh was told he could have been caned if not for his age for outraging the modesty of his patient during treatment.
High Court judge Justice Ahmadi Asnawi told Muhammad Zin Othman, 51, that he was lucky that he was above 50 years.
"I would have given you at least six whippings," said the judge.
Muhammad Zin was convicted by a Magistrate's court last year and sentenced to 15, 16 and 18 months for each of the three counts of outraging the 21-year-old victim's modesty at her family home in Kajang.
The sentences were to run concurrently, making it a total of 18 months imprisonment.
Hearing the appeal on Thursday, Justice Ahmadi amended Muhammad Zin's sentences to run consecutively, hence the accused will be serving 49 months starting yesterday.
According to appeal records, the accused - a family friend of nine years - came to the victim's house for Hari Raya celebration and saw the victim suffering from itchiness, believed to be an allergy.
However, he told the victim's mother that it was not allergy and asked the mother to prepare a bucket of salt water.
The victim bathed with the salt water in the bathroom and the accused rubbed her entire body. After 10 minutes of 'bathing', the victim's body was applied with lotion.
He came again to the house the next day (Sept 27, 2009) for a 'follow-up' treatment. This time, the victim was told to remove the cloth (kain berkemban) covering her because the salt water needed to be 'fully absorbed' by the body. He molested her then.
The accused also told the victim not to tell her family.
He repeated his actions on Sept 28 and Oct 3, 2009. The victim finally broke down and told her family about the incident. She lodged a police report on Oct 4, 2009.
