CM’s 3-day CNY celebration in Sibu to start on third day
SIBU: Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will be spending three days here to celebrate Chinese New Year (CNY) with the people of Sibu.
According to Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, Taib will arrive here at 3.30pm on the third day (Feb 12) of CNY.
In the evening he will have dinner at the residence of KTS managing director Datuk Henry Lau Lee Kong, the younger brother of Temenggong Vincent Lau Lee Ming.
On the following day, the Chief Minister will visit the houses of prominent businessmen Datuk Toh Chew Hock of Hock Peng Organisation, Datuk Hii Yu Peng of Kingwood Group of companies, United Chinese Association (UCA) president Ting Huat Chie and two ordinary citizens whose names have yet to be made available.
After lunch at the residence of Lanang MP Datuk Tiong Thai King, who is also Sibu Municipal Council chairman, Taib will attend a CNY gathering at Sibu Foochow Association at 2pm. The event is organised by the Seven-Clan Association.
In the evening he will have dinner at the residence of Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.
On the fifth day (Feb 14) Taib will inspect the work progress of University College of Technology Sarawak at 9am followed by a meeting with about 3,000 Iban representatives from Bawang Assan area at the Penasu Community Hall, about half an hour’s drive away.
At noon, he will have lunch at the residence of CCK Consolidated Holdings Berhad chairman Datuk Tiong Su Kouk. After that, at 2pm, he will meet 2,000 longhouse representatives from Dudong area at Sibu Civic Centre.
At 8pm,Taib will attend the annual CNY dinner organised by UCA at Kingwood Hotel.
