Warm reception: Muhyiddin, accompanied by Dr Md Isa (behind Muhyiddin) and Santan state assemblyman Sabri Ahmad (right), waving to the crowd at Seri Melati Hall in Padang Besar, Perlis. PADANG BESAR: Barisan Nasional is confident that Perlis will remain its stronghold, with the coalition winning all the state and parliamentary seats.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that based on the preparations made by the state Barisan, he believed the coalition would win all three parliamentary and 15 state seats.
He said there was a greater sense of confidence and trust shown by the people for the Barisan Government now compared to right after the 2008 elections.
Muhyiddin said that the confidence level among the people increased after they observed how the Opposition fought among each other and failed to settle their issues.
“The Opposition failed to fulfil their promises.
“We can see the Opposition becoming fragile and thus not being able to increase the people's confidence in them.
“Between the two (Barisan and Opposition), the people can see which is better,” he added.
He also said Barisan leaders in Perlis had agreed to set aside any differences to ensure the party's win in the state.
“It is normal for any party to have internal problems but I believe that Umno and Barisan leaders in Perlis understand that if they let it continue, it will leave an impact in the elections,” he said during a press conference after attending the 1MalaysiaFeast at Seri Melati Hall in Beseri here yesterday.
Earlier, he was granted an audience with the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail at Istana Arau before being briefed on the state Barisan's preparation for the elections by Perlis Barisan secretary Datuk Mat Rawi Kassim at the state assembly legislative complex in Kangar.
At another event, Muhyiddin announced a RM2.75mil allocation for several projects in Perlis.
He said the Federal Government would allocate RM200,000 each for the upgrading works of Al-Mursyid Mosque in Guring and the construction of night market open lots in Pekan Pauh.
“A total of RM1.8mil will also be given for the construction of a new multi-purpose hall in Kuala Perlis while another RM500,000 will be allocated to upgrade the wholesale market in Kangar, and the remaining RM50,000 for the Perlis Youth Council,” he told some 2,000 people at the 2020 hall in Kangar.
The Deputy Prime Minister also presented cash aid of RM500 each under Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) 2.0 to a group of people at the event.
Also present was Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu.
