KUALA LUMPUR: The woman arrested under the new Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 along with former Internal Security Act detainee Yazid Sufaat was an acquaintance of theirs, Yazid's wife Chomel Mohamad said.

She said Halimah Hussein, who is unmarried and named by a lawyer as one of those detained, was a religious teacher.

"She gave me religious lessons. The last time I saw her was at my home three weeks ago," said Chomel.

Chomel, 48, also said Yazid had denied any knowledge relating to Mohd Noor Fikrie Abd Kahar, a Malaysian who was shot dead by Philippines police in December.

She said she overheard Fikrie's name mentioned by police as they searched her home following Yazid's arrest Thursday.

She was talking to reporters while waiting for her husband to be brought to the Ampang Court here Friday.

Yazid, 49, was arrested along with Mohd Hilmi Hasim and Halimah. They are the first persons to be arrested under the new Act.
