MACC security assistants primed to prevent 'untoward incidents' during probes

By FARIK ZOLKEPLI

PETALING JAYA: The pioneering batch of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) security assistants, who completed their training Friday, will prevent "untoward incidents" during the course of investigations.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (management and professionalism) Datuk Zakaria Jaffar said the assistants would ensure the safety of witnesses or suspects during interrogation or when attending court proceedings.

"The introduction of the assistants will enable our investigators to focus solely on their tasks.

"It will lead to a speedier and more efficient form of investigation," he told reporters after attending the conclusion of the three-month training course for some 69 security assistants, held at Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) here.

He added the MACC would increase the number of such assistants in the future when the need arose.
