Drunk man dies after train runs over him in Beaufort

KOTA KINABALU: A 49-year-old man, believed to be drunk, died after he was run over by a train in Beaufort.
The man identified as Ali Japaar was apparently lying on the railway tracks at about 7.30pm on Thursday when the train hit him, causing him to lose his legs.
Beaufort district police chief Deputy Supt Mustaffa Maarof Mustaffa said Friday that one of Ali's legs was crushed while the other was torn apart from his body.
“He died on the way to the hospital,” he said, adding police were investigating whether the man had fallen asleep at the tracks after drinking. He said the driver could not stop the train in time.
Ali leaves behind a wife and an adopted daughter.
