Temple break-in accused charged in hospital ward


SUNGAI SIPUT: A 24-year-old man who broke into a Hindu temple last year was charged in a ward at the Sungai Siput hospital here Friday.

S. Sothivanan, 24, who is being treated for a heart ailment, however, claimed trial to committing the offence at the Devi Sri Maha Mariamman Devasthanam temple at No.32, Jalan Kuala Kangsar here between 9.30pm on Oct 6, 2012 and 4.30am the following day.

He allegedly carted away RM10,000 worth of loot including three gold pieces, an ornament and RM250 cash.

Magistrate Ahmad Shamil Azad Abdul Hamid set bail at RM5,000 in one surety and fixed Mar 4 for re-mention. Deputy Public Prosecutor Hafizah Zahidah Abdullah prosecuted while counsel B. Balakrisnan represented the accused. - Bernama
